Shoujo manga author Yoshizumi Wataru began Kimi Shika Iranai in the February 1996 issue of Ribon, after the end of her popular Marmalade Boy and before the start of Mint na Bokura. Kimi Shika follows the story of 16-year-old Totoki Atsumu in his attempt to win over the first and only girl he's ever liked, Kurihara Akane. That would be simple, if it wasn't for Akane's unusual past. Kimi Shika ended in the November 1996 issue of Ribon and was later compiled into two volumes.
